A commission by The Urban Times Magazine that leads me to investigate urban planning from a gender perspective. My research reveals a startling fact: as of 2022, only 10% of the streets in Barcelona are named after women. Furthermore, most of these streets are tributary or located in the periphery.
To highlight this disparity, I reach out to my neighbors, inviting them to propose names of women or non-binary individuals who deserve to be honored in our city for their contributions. To broaden participation, I also create a website where anyone can submit their suggestions.
Using the collected proposals, I design street signs and place them in Plaça del Sol (Gràcia, Barcelona) for the week of March 8th, International Women’s Day, to symbolically reclaim public space and spark discussion on gender equity in urban planning.
