The 21st century has put cities in the spotlight. The majority of the world’s population is urban, and the dynamics imposed by their environments condition the planet. Although the impact of cities is global, we must not forget the local scale, that is, the humans who inhabit them. The success of a city will depend on the quality of life of its citizens.
The Urban Times was created with the aim of bringing together different viewpoints to reflect on the construction and the development of cities, understanding their context from a human-centred point of view. On a quarterly basis, this publication will address current issues to learn about the strategies that will enable us to meet the Sustainable Development Goals set out in the 2030 Agenda.
This first issue addresses urban mobility, which is a hot topic that is introducing new urban paradigms. The key to face the future is to understand how the overall design of the transport network can benefit and harm its users and the environment.
